Vehicle Story
From our Client's point of view:
In 1967, I had a neighbor who was a mechanic at the local Buick dealership. He drove an original 1937 Chevy Business Coupe to work. The car was in excellent condition and my neighbor’s family was the original owner of the car.
I noticed his Chevy and I decided to knock on his door and ask if I could buy his car. He said, “How much?” I said $100.00, he responded, ‘it’s a deal.” A few weeks later I was driving my first car. I believe my neighbor was very generous and wanted to help out a 16- year-old teenager.
Like most teens, I did not have a dime. My father was a mechanic and helped me to keep the coupe in good condition. I drove this car for the rest of my high school years and decided to take it to college several hundred miles away. To drive the Chevy this far was a test of faith. I remember driving to college for the first time with a friend. Just outside of a small town on the way, the fan belt broke. We walked into town and found the auto parts store manager just locking up for the night. We told him of our circumstances and he opened back up the store and sold us a fan belt.
I really had very few repairs on this car over the years. I remember changing out the timing gear once. At college, I dated my future wife in this car. Over the years I got tired of the old technology such as pumping the breaks to stop and bleeding the brake lines. I always stored the car in my garages and kept it out of the weather.
In January 2018, I decided to restore my 37 Chevy. With some help from a friend, we started by removing the original engine, wheels, hubcaps, and so forth. We sold the original parts easily on Ebay.
In the Spring of 2018, approximately 51 years after purchasing this car from the original owner, I was ready to start the restoration.
