Vehicle Story

A build in the making spanning several generations. My grandpa Harold ordered this 1964 Dodge Dart GT Golden Anniversary edition new for my grandma Alma in 1964 with a manual 4 speed transmission and a 273 ci. V8; it has remained in the family since (and has even been submerged in Flathead Lake, NW Montana at one point…). Fast forward 57 years to present day 2021, my dad Cris and I are retooling the family Dart into a homage to the golden era of road racing. The build will remain fully analog: manual brakes, manual steering, carburation, and mechanical gauges. However, a few new age tricks are in order by way of a dodge viper t56 six speed manual transmission, suspension, brakes, and wheel/tire technology to bring the handling on par with today’s pro-touring standard.

The power-plant is Cris’s first small block blueprinted, built, and raced with Harold throughout the 1980’s. A Dart, with a Chevy Heart! Freshly revamped and rebuilt after a 30+ year stay in storage, it’s a tried-and-true mill with easy parts sourcing. My dad’s uncanny knowledge for the LS precursor assures it will never miss an event. Together the entire package is a history book of my family’s automotive heritage, and largely the reason I’ve signed on to help my dad and grandpa pay tribute to my grandma who has passed, and a family tradition of hotrod memories.
