Vehicle Story

We picked up this 1951 Ford convertible to showcase and R&D new products for the company. The king pin suspension was swapped out using our tubular control arm ball joint conversion kit for 1949-53 Fords. The Jamco Parts deluxe ultra cruise kit includes new spindles with disc brakes, lowering coils and upper a-arm camber adjustment kit. It is a complete bolt on kit that will preserve the classic look of your ride while offering a driving experience closer to a modern vehicle—smooth ride, proper alignment, altitude adjustment and quicker stops. Additionally we installed our proprietary larger front sway bar and our steering linkage upgrade kit, which greatly improves overall handling and steering feel. To dampen the front correctly we installed Bilstein shock absorbers designed for our ride height and travel. In addition to the front disc brakes we upgraded our original single chamber master cylinder to a dual chamber master with a proportioning valve and remote fill. For the rear suspension we installed our Deluxe rear lowering kit that consists of new 3" lowered leaf springs with shackles, bushings, u-bolts and Bilstein shocks. The result of the suspension, steering and brake upgrades were dramatic and you can easily forget that you are driving a car built in 1951. To clean up the rolling stock we painted the stock wheels to match the dash, mounted five new Coker Classic G-78-15 whitewalls, added new 1949-51 Ford trim rings and new 1949-50 Ford block letter polished stainless steel hub caps. We freshened up the Ford with a custom molded carpet kit from Trim Parts, and replaced the weatherstripping along with the heater control valve.
