December - The Trim Parts 1967 Camaro Giveaway started out as a fairly nice ride, but fairly nice wasn't good enough for Alan Pound at A&R Restorations. Alan and his team looked the car over before it was purchased. It needed a few odds and ends, a fresh coat of paint and minor body work, but they were up for the task. One thing about Alan is when he puts his name on something, you will soon find out that he wants it to be the best. So the journey began.....
February - First task, get this Camaro down to its bones, and see what you really have underneath everything. A&R had looked the car over before it was purchased, so there were not too many surprises. The floors, firewall, doors, roof were all in great shape, some of the best Alan and his team had seen on a First Gen, and they have seen a lot. The quarters were done before, but not done well. Golden Star Auto gave us a set of their inner and outer quarters, a trunk floor, tail panel and dash. We also wanted to change out the existing fiberglass hood, so we replaced that with a Golden Star hood.
March - The body has had the final bugs worked out and is sprayed with a fresh coat of surfacer. The fresh coat of Axalta red will be sprayed next month. The chassis was stripped and powder coated black. While the body work has been going on, the Classic Performance Products Stage-4 kit has been installed with all new brakes and suspension. The Connect-n-Cruise Chevrolet Performance crate engine and transmission from Gandrud Performance Chevrolet were also bolted to the chassis.
April - The body was assembled and blocked across panels. Many hours of final block sanding the polyester surfacer is done. Then the car was disassembled before all the outside seams and roof gutters were filled with 2-part seam filler. Final touch up body work is completed, and then the entire car gets three good coats of Axalta 33430S Chroma Premier Pro Primer. We also painted the dash black. The final sand is done with 320, then 600, before cleaning and masking for paint. Now we are ready to spray the bright red Axalta paint. Wow, it looks beautiful!
We ran the Right Stuff fuel and brake lines along the chassis and engine area. The Vintage Air First Gen Sure Fit air conditioning kit is being installed in the dash and out through the engine compartment. The custom PUI Interior red/black houndstooth seats were delivered assembled and ready to go and included matching rear covers. The finishing touches of the Classic Performance Products rear brakes are installed on the Moser rear end. Dynamat is installed to keep everything cool & quiet.
May - This month it all starts to really come together. The beautiful Axalta paint is on the body & ready to be mounted to the chassis. The Gandrud Chevrolet Performance drivetrain is ready to fire, with a Shiftworks shifter. The Trim Parts carpet is in, and the complete PUI Interior with seats is finished. The IDIDIT column is painted and installed with Classic Instruments gauges. Charging system with American Autowire harness and Optima Battery are ready, and the cooling system is a go with a CFR Performance radiator and fan assembly. Now we are ready for wheels and tires!
June - After picking up the car at Goodguys in Nashville the American Legend Blackhawk wheels were installed along with a fresh set of Falken tires. Billet hood hinges, vendor supports and hood latch and bumpers we also added from Eddie Motorsports. We would also like to thank Classic Industries, Lonestar Car Parts, NPD National Parts Depot, Classic Headquarters, Meguiars and Jegs Performance for their help and contributions. All ready to go, see you this summer and at the "Nationals" in September in Memphis!
