We purchased this car at the NSRA Nationals in Louisville, KY; it was so solid, we had to have it!  We knew it would be the perfect car for fitment and testing of our RideTech StreetGrip System.

“Hey, nice car. Let’s take it apart….” For our fourth 48 Hour project, we decided to disassemble the most popular car in RideTech’s current R&D fleet — our 1971 StreetGRIP Camaro — and upgrade it to full-on Pro-Touring specification. During Scottsdale auction week, the 48 Hour crew will change EVERYTHING except for the beautifully painted shell, glass and exterior trim. The carbureted 350 as been replaced with a high tech, CNC ported Lingenfelter LS3 with Holley EFI.  We replaced the analog 700-R4 transmission with a Bowler electronic overdrive 4L75E and Pro Torque LSXT billet converter. A full RideTech coilover suspension system has been installed using our new “unicradle” Bolt-On 4-Link kit and StrongArms with TQ Series triple adjustable shock absorbers.

The car’s numerous original parts including drum brakes, open diff 10 bolt rear,  gas tank wiring and gauge cluster are gone. We have already installed Baer 4 piston calipers at all four corners along with a Currie Enterprises Turn 9 Crate rear end. MillerBuilt floater hubs have been added to each end of the axle. we have yet to install the FiTech fuel tank/pump assembly or the Classic Instruments Autocross series gauges, but that should happen today.  Painless Performance has worked diligently to install their new Pro Series wiring kit.

We’re looking forward to firing the engine Friday morning and installing the Forgeline ML3C 18″ wheels with B.F. Goodrich Rival S tires. One of the final touches will be the custom interior panels. Tracy Weaver from Recovery Room Interiors has been burning the midnight oil back in Nebraska and sending us shipments each day.  The strategy is to upholster existing interior parts such as the dash pad, door panels, back seat and package tray.
